My Friend Flickr

Well, Flickr is basically awesome. Today, I've mostly just been exploring and I created an account. I don't have the memory card for my digital camera with me at work, and I don't have a computer at home, so I had a very limited selection of pictures that I could upload of myself or my family. I found one of me as a baby from a staff development day project long ago and just used that. I am going to tell my family about Flickr because we're always trying to send each other pictures ect... and this way we can all be connected. I would love to do a mash up of my nieces and nephews. ANYWHO, today I've learned how to navigate Flickr. I am a creative spirit, so I loved all of the different tools that you can play with. Behold the warholized version of my baby photo! If I can remember to bring in my memory card, then I can start using the tuna salad out of FLICKR!

TAG -not just an effective body spray/deodarant

But a cool bookmarking tool as well. Well, I must admit I haven't really done any official tagging before. It took me a little while to get used to. I usually just go ahead and get hands on because that's the way I learn the best. I signed up for del.icio.us and LibraryThing-my screen for both of them is souprnoelle (in case anyone wants to find me). I like LibraryThing the best out of the tagging sites. I'm slightly picky about books that interest me, so all of the tags and suggestions are very helpful. As for del.icio.us - I'm still finding my way around. It is a good way to organize my varied interests onto my own page. Technorati was my least favorite just because, quite frankly, I don't usually like reading the blogs of people I don't know-even if the subject is of interest to me. However, I do think it is a healthy way for people to express themselves and exercise their freedom of speech. I need to go for now....LATOR GATORS!

MySpace, Your Space, We've all got space!

Well, I guess I have a love hate relationship with myspace. At first, it is like e-crack for the nosy and you want to look up all those people in highschool that still owe you money...and then you have to confront them and make them give you your money because you need it to build something cool and then you finally build it and you feel empty inside because its over and nobody else on myspace owes you money.
But then..................................MRRL learning 2.0 comes along and you realize it's a super great tool for the library to use to reach people that otherwise might not frequent the actual building. It's sad, but in a meeting the other day, Taryn pointed out that some parents won't take their kids or teens to anything, but they will sit them down in front of a t.v. or computer. So, a teen like that can actually communicate with librarians and have some window to the library/literary world even if they can't drive yet and their parents won't take them. (For some reason this reminded me a little of an example of a virtual library we saw at MLA last year when they were talking about the future of libraries. It had a librarian avatar) It's also a great way to check out authors - I really wish more of my favorites had myspace pages where they can blog easily ect... Sometimes their publishing websites are very impersonal. They need to get with it. Well, my thoughts are random and my sentences run on, so I guess I'll just sum it up by saying: Libraries and Myspace go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly.

The Wiki that I made but haven't figured out is below

storytimecentral.wikidot.com

Wiki Whining

Well, now I feel bad for being so hard on the wiki makers. I actually tried to make my own wiki on wikidot.com and realized for myself and it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be to beautify my page. Infact, it is quite ugly. I haven't mastered the "code" language and so far, I haven't found any sort of generator to make codes for you. I wanted to be a good student and go the extra mile by actually creating my own wiki. But alas, it is an ugly, red headed stepchild of a wiki. I will keep working on it....feel free wiki experts to give some tips. I need them.
O.k., now onto MySpace. I've already been able to master that.

Wiki Wiki! Waka Waka

I know you're all just dying to know what I think about Wiki. Well, here goes....
Well, first of all, when people say Wiki Wiki, it can't help but make me think of the classic line from the movie Hook, "Lookie Lookie, I've got Hookie" (as said by Ruffio). But, the wiki equivalent of that would be Wiki Wiki I've got Nikki. But, I'm sure Nikki would be hard to capture, so the equivalence is lost. However, Ruffio was killed by Hook, and it is possible that if someone tried to abduct Nikki they would very well end up dead.
Anywho, that has nothing to do with the REAL wiki business. Well, I think wiki is a great concept. Some of the wikis I looked at were well organized and attractive and others could use a little work. I guess a wiki is only as good as it's creator/s. I suppose if someone is incredibly interested in a particular subject, then it might not matter to them how attractive it is. However, technology is such that it's not THAT hard to make things a little more interesting than plain text with small, dull links. Also, some of them had too much information on one page. That makes it harder to read and follow.

Not So Surprise Party

Yeah, so the children's department has surprise parties for everyone's birthday...but I was able to fish out information from Tiffany using my sneaky ways to unfoil the luncheon plans. So, today I will have my not so surprise party. I was even able to find out what we are eating....sandwiches.
What do I think about this?
I think I am a sneaky Genuis! (o.k., just kidding) but maybe....
SEMI SNEAKY GENUIS!
